Course Outline The presentation covers the requirements of NFPA 80, 92, and 105 regarding the periodic inspections of fire dampers/smoke dampers as well as the testing of smoke control systems. Additionally, the findings of a recently completed study that determines the reliability of HVAC fire life safety dampers and smoke control systems. The study was led by Dr. James Milke at the University of MD, School of Fire Protection Engineering.

Objectives:

  • Provide proof of issues that have been discovered by inspecting technicians in the field.
  • Provide research data from the University of MD. 
  • Provide information on the importance of the periodic inspections of HVAC fire life safety components and the related NFPA standards.


ICC CEU credit will be issued for 0.3 CEU's.


Special Instructions:

There will be classroom time to start and then the remainder out in the shop. Dress should be appropriate duty uniform and duty boots.

Scott Hammond – Director of Research, National Energy Management Institute Committee – is a former Business Manager of SMART Lo. 24 in Southern Ohio, has been involved in the HVAC industry since June 1986, is a member of ASHRAE and NFPA, as well as a Technical Committee member of the International Certification Board (ICB) working in the development of HVAC fire life safety certifications that are accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
