This course will discuss how and when to use Chapter 11 of the International Fire Code. It will break down specific subject matter and discuss some of the challenges related to enforcement.
February 14, 2024 - Chapter 35 Welding and Other Hot Work
This course will discuss what inspection items are related to Chapter 35 of the International Fire Code. It will also break down the permit requirements and the importance of a thorough permit and inspection program.
March 27, 2024 - Lithium-Ion Batteries
Lithium-Ion batteries have quickly become a popular means of powering everyday devices. This has had significant unintended consequences resulting in difficult fires to extinguish. This course will cover some of the new code sections related to this topic that can prevent costly and dangerous operations in your jurisdiction
April 24, 2024 - Additive Manufacturing and the International Fire Code
3D Printing has become a common process and technology in many occupancies. This course will cover the items discussed in the International Fire Code and how we can examine these processes to keep the occupancies in our jurisdiction safe!
May 29, 2024 - Fire Sprinkler Requirements for Woodworking, Distilled Spirits, and Furniture
The fire code has identified specific occupancy groups as having a higher likelihood of a fire. This class discusses what some of the thresholds are for fire sprinkler requirements in Chapter 9 of the International Fire Code and how the code user should interpret those.
June 26, 2024 - Distinguishing NFPA 13, 13R, and 13D
This course will cover the basic differences between the three different NFPA standards that govern fire sprinkler install: NFPA 13, 13R, and 13D. Attendees will learn differences and similarities between them and how this affects enforcement for the local authority having jurisdiction.
July 24, 2024 - Appendix N, Indoor Trade Shows and Exhibitions
This section of the International Fire Code, although not specifically adopted, provides a location in the code that can be referenced that is pointed and includes items not covered elsewhere in the IFC. We will also cover how a jurisdiction can utilize this at their local level of enforcement.
August 28, 2024 - Daycare Inspections
Local jurisdictions have been tasked with providing inspections for daycares for decades. This includes in-home and commercial daycares. What items should be examined? What enforcing agencies are involved in daycare governance? How does this affect how we do those inspections? These questions will be answered during this course.
September 25, 2024 - Pallet Storage
This course covers Section 315.7 and 2810 of the International Fire Code. Exterior pallet storage has historically been identified as potentially dangerous to surrounding exposures due to the intense heat when burning. We will examine the two different criteria to examine and then go over the appropriate code sections.
October 30, 2024 - Remote Virtual Inspections
This class will discuss Remote Virtual Inspections (RVI). Although not widely used today, that time may be here. COVID, tight operating budgets, and convenience all play a factor in entertaining remote virtual inspections for your jurisdiction. We will discuss some of the benefits and topics to thoroughly discuss before deciding on RVI’s.
November 20, 2024 - Hood Cleaning Best Practices
This course will cover items in NFPA 96 and ANSI/IKECA C10. IKECA C10 (Standard For The Methodology For Cleaning Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Systems) is a referenced standard in the International Fire Code and governs a minimum standard for the cleaning of commercial Kitchen Exhaust Systems. Commercial kitchen fires are the most common commercial fire that jurisdictions see. We will discuss items that can be examined during fire code inspections.
December 18, 2024 - Appendix E, F, G, H of the International Fire Code
This course will go over four of the appendices in the IFC: APPENDIX E HAZARD CATEGORIES, APPENDIX F HAZARD RANKING, APPENDIX G CRYOGENIC FLUIDS—WEIGHT AND VOLUME EQUIVALENTS, APPENDIX H HAZARDOUS MATERIALS MANAGEMENT PLAN (HMMP) AND HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INVENTORY STATEMENT (HMIS) INSTRUCTIONS. These Appendices relate to hazardous material and Chapter 50 through Chapter 67 of the International Fire Code.

Tony has 6 years of fire sprinkler design experience and 6 years of fire code inspection experience and currently works for Yakima Fire Department. He holds a NICET Level II in fire sprinkler design. He is also certified through the International Code Council as a Fire Code Inspector I & II, Commercial Building Inspector and Certified Building Official.
